Early The west, to me, is not about a direction or place; it is about a life, a lifestyle, a culture, a romance. This will be the first series of what I hope, with your support, is just the beginning. I hope you will collect at least some of each of the elements of this work, as together they tell a wonderful story. It is my story, and I hope, your story of the west.

The houlihan is swng counter clock wise, opposite a traditional loop and opened at the throw with the flick of an agile wrist. It was not an easy throw and required years of practice to perfect.

Growing up in Montana, it was not uncommon to hear a story now and then of old time cowboys, and those not so long ago, roping bears, coyotes, wolves, and even an elk now and then. Last fall I heard the story again from a friend whose Granddad roped a black bear on a bet, and packed a permanent scar for the effort.
